If you need words for a song for pitching to an artist, or to supply to publishing companies, I generally prefer to work from an Mp3 with the vocal line sung with gobbledygook, or nonsense lyrics (preferable in English). A written brief and a telephone conversation is usually enough to give me a good idea of what is required.
I am happy to collaborate with other writers and producers but unfortunately I can only accept commissions that have a guarantee of release or from writer/producers who are contracted to a publishing company.
I also work as a lyrical consultant, mostly for foreign artists wanting to break into the UK or American market. Generally the artist is an accomplished lyricist, however, some lines of a song may be grammatically correct but sound strange to English speaking person. The song may simply need a few lines to be improved. A common mistake, for example, is jumping from past to present tense. Sometimes the words just need to flow a little more. |
"I just want to say hi and to thank you for really great lyrics on the song. It's right on the spot. The words sing very well and it's going to be great fun to complete the demo. All the best and speak soon."
